My wife and I had a wonderful tour of Sao Miguel with Andy. We went to Lagoa do Fogo, enjoyed a dip in a hot spring, lunch, and tea at the Gorreana Tea plantation. Andy was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and locating great places to stop off the beaten path. It was a laid back and wonderful time. Azores Connections has made relationships with many of the tour/excursion companys on the islands. This makes them a great resource and I highly recommend Azores Connections for all of your custom Azores tour/adventure needs.
Andy and Laura put together a perfect itinerary and accommodation to suit our holiday wishes. They made all the arrangements which meant our holiday was so easy and ran without a single hitch. We managed to incorporate a wide variety of activities to suit the whole family but which still meant that we had time to relax and explore the island. Having private tours meant that we were able to see parts of the island that we wouldn't normally have been able to find and Andy was very knowledgeable about the island and its history.Thank you for a fantastic holiday.
Laura and Andy at Azores Connections were amazing! I began planning our trip of 9 with Laura months before. She put together an awesome itinerary for us tailoring it to our needs and requests. Anytime I emailed her with a question she always returned the reply within minutes. One of my most important request was that our tours and activities be private. Laura was able to accomplish that. She booked our full day tour with her husband Andy as our guide who did an excellent job at making our tour not only fun but also educational. We learned so much about the sights that we were seeing, things we would have never known without him. She also organized our horse back riding in Sete Cidades, kayaking and mountain biking in Furnas and a Dolphin Swim. Laura booked our car rentals as well of which we were also very satisfied. I cannot forget to mention, we were able to meet Laura. I had emailed her before we left to ask about an address of my mom's cousin that she wanted to visit while we were there. Laura emailed me back with the directions and said it was right down the road from her house and to come visit her after our visit with our cousins. That was a real treat to put a face to the name I had been emailing all these months. We met her adorable son, George and got to meet Andy the day before our tour with him. We thought that was very kind of her to have us drop by her home. Made it personal, not all business. Would definitely use Azores Connections again. You will not be disappointed! Thank you Laura and Andy!!
We got in touch with Andy and Laura only a week or so before we were due to fly out - quite short notice during the busy Summer months - but they were exceptionally friendly and responsive by email, and arranged an island jeep tour and kayaking excursion for us.Island TourAndy picked us up from our hotel at 9am sharp. We drove from Furnas (where we were based) up to Sete Cidades. We stopped various times en route at several of the lookout points, and visited a number of local lakes, architectural curiosities (ancient aqueduct systems, haunted abandoned hotels) and other points of interest. A number of these were well off the beaten tourist track, including several that would have been really tricky for non-4WD vehicles to access, and they provided us with some phenomenal views over the Sete Cidades lakes. Andy was exceptionally knowledgeable about the place and was able to answer every question we could throw at him about the history and geography of the area, right down to the volcanic history of the specific lakes and the species of trees growing around them - the man is an Azorian trivia machine!Dinner was included at a cute little lakeside cafe in Sete Cidades itself (probably the best of the ubiquitous caf-bars that we visited), including soft drinks and coffee. We hung round by the lake for a while to take in the atmosphere - we never felt rushed on and we were able to experience the island at our own pace, which was really appreciated. We then drove out to the ocean hot springs at Ferraria - again, this was somewhere we had never heard of before and probably never would have visited were it not for this tour. The springs themselves were brilliant, despite the relatively high tide, and we preferred them to the jam packed lobster pots that are Furnas towns hot springs. On the way back to Furnas we stopped off at a couple of interesting points overlooking Villa Franca, and Andy even took us through Ponta Delgada, even though it was a bit out of his way, since we wouldnt have had the opportunity to go there otherwise.I really cant overstate what value for money the tour was. The full day tour cost us 180 euros, which would be good value for the transport alone, but on top of that you get an expert tour guide (a native English speaker, fluent in Portuguese) and excellent food as well. We were beginning to wonder if we had reas the email incorrectly and that it was going to be 180 euros each (well worth it for the quality of the day!) - but no, just 180!Kayaking ExcursionThey also arranged a kayaking excursion for us at Furnas Lake. The excursion was run by another local firm but we paid through Andy and Lauras firm. Again, this was organised quickly and effectively and meant we didnt need to contact a Portuguese firm directly (our language skills are limited). If youre planning on doing anything active in the Azores, it would be worth getting in touch with them as they have connections with lots of the major excursion providers, and, judging by our experience, its probably the most painless way to book things. Had we known they offered this travel agent service we probably would have booked more of our excursions through them - we definitely will be doing so if we visit the Azores again.I cannot recomend Azores Connections highly enough!
Had an unbelievable experience and tour with Andy . Laura was very personable and we were wishing we could have met her. Andy was very familiar with the history of Sao Miguel and the culture making it a very enjoying day tour. Hoping to spend more time in the future in the beautiful, safe, and people friendly and helpful, islands of the Azores. An amazing and very reasonable vacation. Thanks Andy and Laura
